At Sagemont Preparatory School, our high school program offers students a well-rounded, college-preparatory education. We help our students thrive academically while also allowing them to explore their own interests and talents. We focus on a personalized approach, integrating project-based learning, technology, and small group instruction to ensure that every student is engaged and supported. With advanced coursework, internships, and travel opportunities, our students graduate from our school feeling confident, empowered, and ready for what comes next.
Well-Rounded Curriculum
In addition to core courses in English, Math, Science, and Social Studies, our students also have the chance to take a variety of engaging elective courses. These courses allow our students to explore real-world applications. These cycle based on interest and faculty expertise, and often include classes in the arts, engineering, computer science, world languages, physical education, and more. Our curriculum is rich in technology for teaching and learning. Our students use technology tools in the classroom and engage in innovative projects and STEM activities to develop advanced digital literacy. This helps prepare them for jobs in the future where technology will be used. Our curriculum exceeds national standards and gets our students ready for college admissions exams like the SAT and ACT.
Our students aren’t just reading textbooks. They engage in hands-on projects where they solve real-world problems. They develop critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills that are important for success in both college and in life. Some highlights from each grade include:
9th Grade: We want our students to think outside of the box and be proud of their own new ideas. Students in 9th grade give TED talk-style presentations where they share their big ideas with their school community. Through this project, they practice their public speaking skills and explore new things that they might love.
10th Grade: Our students in 10th grade learn about taking smart financial risks and how to save and invest money. They use the skills they have learned in their financial literacy class to understand how to make smart money decisions, which can help them plan for their future.
11th Grade: By the time our students are in 11th grade, they can participate in our internship program. They work in real jobs to learn more about things they are interested in, such as business, public relations, healthcare, law, or art.
12th Grade: Our seniors take part in our “Sagemont Prep Senior Marketplace.” They work in groups to build their own businesses from the ground up. They make a business plan, market their products, and learn about things like supply, demand, and how to make profits. This project is a great way for our students to learn how businesses work.
Advanced Placement (AP) Courses
We offer AP courses, allowing our students to earn college credits while they are still in high school. These courses allow students to dive deeper into subjects they are passionate about while giving them a competitive edge for the future. Courses include Biology, Chemistry, Spanish Language, World History, Art History, and more.
AP Capstone Diploma Program
We are proud to offer the AP Capstone Diploma™ program. This helps our students learn skills like research, working in teams, and communicating well. It is based on two AP classes—AP Seminar and AP Research—where our students study real-world issues and learn how to use facts to make arguments. If students do well in these classes and pass four other AP exams, they can earn the AP Capstone Diploma™. This diploma is recognized by colleges. It shows that a student can think on their own, solve problems, and do advanced research.
Executive Internships
We provide an Executive Internship program for our students who want to get real-world job experience. This is an honors elective class where our students work in professional settings, learning about careers they are interested in. Some students even do internships right on our campus, like helping to run our student café, Café Pride Rock, or working in technology, marketing, or sports management.
Week Without Walls
Our Week Without Walls program takes learning outside of the classroom. During this week, they do fun activities like learning about forensic science with the FBI or pretending to fly lanes in simulators. Our students can also intern at local businesses. They also get to travel! They can visit U.S. National Parks, Washington, D.C., or even travel abroad to places like the Galapagos Islands, Portugal, and the Azores Islands. These trips help them learn about the world and use what they have learned in school.
Clubs and Student Life
Our students can join (or start!) different clubs that they are interested in. These clubs are led by students and cover everything from arts and science to sports and service. This helps our students explore their passions and make new friends. Being part of clubs also helps build leadership skills and a strong resume for college applications. Colleges like to see that students are well-rounded and get involved in things they care about. Learn more info on our Groups & Clubs page.
Entrepreneurship in Action
At Sagemont Prep, we have a student-run coffee shop called Pride Rock. It’s a place where students relax and learn about business. Students created a business plan, borrowed money from the school, and paid it back with profits. They also plan events like movie nights and live music. Now, they’re working on expanding the shop to have more space for their customers!
Advisory Program
Once a week, our high school students meet for an hour to talk about important topics like getting ready for college, growing as a person, and creating a healthy school environment. These meetings help our students develop skills that will help them do well in school and in life.
Preparing for the Future
College counselors help our students plan for their future. They help our students through everything from picking the right colleges to filling out applications. This makes sure that our students are well-prepared to achieve their goals. More info can be found on our College Guidance page.
